Brand story of Chromascence: what Chroma's grandma taught her?

Chroma, the founder's name, means color; Scence suggests a vital breath. Chroma breathes new color and life into materials on the verge of completing their journey – and that is how the two converged into an art handcraft brand.
I'm Chroma, grew up in China and came to the US with parents during teenage years.
When I was a kid, my earliest understanding of beauty began with a handbag my grandmother made from unused handkerchiefs and fabric. I have treasured it ever since, even though I traveled across the earth - not only as a symbol of her love, but as my first lesson in giving overlooked materials new meaning.
Years later, back to my hometown Jingdezhen, China—the world’s porcelain capital—I encountered mountains of discarded ceramic fragments. That left me deeply shaken. Remembering my grandmother’s handbag, I began to wonder: what if these pieces were not the end of something, but the beginning?
That idea became Chromascence.
Through mosaic and hand-piecing techniques, we transform ceramic fragments into one-of-a-kind artworks. By working with existing materials, we hope to create more thoughtfully, reduce unnecessary waste, and treat the Earth’s resources with greater care.
Chromascence carries forward the spirit of my grandmother’s gift: seeing beauty where others may not, creating with care, and turning fragments into sustainable objects that hold new memories.
From fragments, we create beauty.
With care, we carry it forward.
